“The Weather”, a song by indie singer-songwriter Reed Gaines, offers a glimmer of hope in a time of  uncertainty.

Gaines, a native of Nashville, has spent much of 2020 recording and producing his sophomore release. So far, a few singles have been released from the upcoming album, each of which displays Gaines’s skill as a stylistic producer and a talented musician.

His sound is understated yet bold, combining subtle vocal melodies with a modern pop soundscape à la The National or Phoebe Bridgers.

Standout track “The Weather” offers pleasant hooks and hopeful  melodies doused in an introspective tone. Gaines’s poetic lyrics drip with a nostalgic longing, adding to the emotional instrumentation.

An intimate piano line accompanies building guitars and heavy drums, growing and swelling in peaks of emotional energy. The entire track is immaculately produced and cleverly arranged; an impressive achievement for a one-man writer/producer.

In short, this Reed Gaines’ material is dynamic, hopeful, and heavy—a timely indie track for autumn’s changing weather.
