Quelle Rox takes an original approach to indie pop with her latest release, “No Surprises”. Catchy, bouncy, and unique, this bop comes to us from Brooklyn, New York, and sounds like an instant hit.
Sometimes you hear a song and know it will spread, and this composition definitely feels like one of those. It’s a tune that needs just one listen to get stuck in your head and follow you throughout the week. Simple, steady chord progressions and writing structure ease listeners with a song that’s essentially formulaic, yet ironically surprising.
The vocals find strength in their versatility and Raquelle, aka Rocky, does a wonderful job of throwing them just enough to still maintain a delicacy in every breath. Beachy guitar lines string together the groove that keep listeners vibing. In a genre and sound that’s predominantly expressed by white artists such as Billie Eillish, Passion Pit, and Vulfpeck, it’s nice to get some representation from the Latinx community sharing this type of work.
It should be known that Quelle Rox is not only a writer but also a producer and recording artist with a clear and beautiful vision that shine through her every release—this very fresh ear candy included.

Anjali Rose Kumar is a musician, videographer, and creative freak based in Brooklyn, NYC. Anjali is learning to cope with a self-imposed quarantine in NYC’s second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic by spending her hours recording music in her bedroom, watching her unemployment leave her bank account, and embarking on a newly revived love of writing. In fact, when Anjali was 10 years old she was convinced she would live her life as a writer, however, she would often confuse her teachers by making up her own vocabulary and therefore buried the interest for 15 years. Cheers to the new years ahead of us. You can find out more about Anjali here.
