Identical twins Anton and Christoph Hochheim, formerly known as Ablebody, previously with New York synth-pop group The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, and still with Beach Fossils and Jerry Paper, have lengthy musical credentials. Together, their new LA-based project, Always You, blends the sonic sensibilities of decades of music from the ‘60s to today.
Their latest single, “Have It Your Way”, plucks the ‘80s new wave tonality and integrates it into an indie aesthetic. With swooning melodies and jazzy interjections, the laid-back timbre belies its depth and complexity. Sparse guitar strums beat like a reflective, nostalgic heart, allowing space for direct lyrics like, “And I don’t care what you do.”
The accompanying music video leans into both the quirky and the creepy. The heavy red lighting and mismatched board games feel like a fever dream as the brothers attempt to reach a spirit through a ritualistic séance.
As the final advance cut from their debut album, Bloom Off The Rose (released July 16), “Have It Your Way” showcases their ingenuity and captivating sound in a succinct, lighthearted way.
