The Ukrainian metal band MegamasS makes a powerful statement of resistance with their new EP, Divide and Liberate!. As their first English-language release, it marks an evolution in both sound and scope, reaching an international audience.
One of the standout tracks, "Her Name Is War", is dedicated to the brutal realities of war—something Ukraine knows all too well right now. It conveys the pain, anger, and hope of a people caught in conflict. With lyrics like "We are golden fields under blue skies, we are the red blood on dark soil," referencing the nation's flag, the song weighs heavy with the Ukrainian people's ongoing struggle. The music itself enhances the tension, with powerful guitar chugs and rapid-fire drumming evoking the chaos of battle. Yet, amidst the storm, there's a palpable hope: "Join the resistance. Together we'll stand as one." This track is a defiant anthem of unity and survival in the face of overwhelming odds, speaking directly to anyone fighting for peace and justice.
Two other tracks on the EP, "BAD CREDIT" and "Until The End", also tackle heavy themes. "BAD CREDIT" melodically tears into society's obsession with wealth: "Living another Groundhog Day, single mistake and they will throw you away." "Until the End" captures the courage and camaraderie of warriors facing the end. Forward-pounding drums and soaring guitars underscore the powerful irony beneath lines like, "Such a beautiful cliché, to fight until the end."
Divide and Liberate! hits hard both musically and thematically. Mixing personal pain with societal reflection, MegamasS delivers a universal message of defiance, strength, and unity.
