Maur Kii unravels the love, lust, and tangled emotions that arise from a flash encounter in MAURNB: THE YEAR WAS. The sleek and introspective RnB EP pulls from different eras of RnB to tell six short vignettes from flirtatious beginning to devastating end.
The EP begins with "STREETS", setting the stage for a weekend hookup that quickly deepens. Vocal filters and autotune emphasize the play on words in "The streets got another one." From the "streets," he's caught a new love interest, just as the streets caught another hit single.
"4 THE WEEKEND" gives us a closer look at the woman who caught his eye. She's hardworking and in need of the escape he'll provide. The laid-back vibe counters the weekend getaway's anticipation.
The emotional stakes rise in "NAKED". Maur Kii is the "no-brainer" choice over her current lover. Nature sounds and a phone message let us eavesdrop on their secret.
"DEEPER" and "OPTIONS – EP Version" explore their physical relationship and what they'll be to each other moving forward. But as sultry as it's been, it's not enough. By the time we reach "WHO CRIES IN A MAYBACH?", the story has taken a darker turn. The final track questions how a relationship that supposedly had everything—luxury, excitement, connection—could still end so abruptly. A tryst that ends in tears, MAURNB: THE YEAR WAS reveals the fleeting feelings of flings with seduction and vulnerability.
