It's been a phenomenal week in Davao as musicians from across the region gather to celebrate Fête de la Musique for the first time in the King City of the South. Tomorrow, June 29, winds up the week-long festivities that brought together artists—seasoned and new—and fans whose shared love for artistic freedom transcends differences, all in honor of the universal language that is music.

The celebration of Fête de la Musique in Davao City is coming to a close with a bang. Happening at South Republik, performances on the main stage are set to begin as early as 2:00 p.m. Kuntaw Mindanao, Jad Montenegro, and Anne Mendoza are among the acts participating in the special event, which is to culminate with performances by Mindanaoan greats Popong Landero, Yano, and the creator of budots, DJ Love.

Fête de la Musique originated in France in 1982 and has since been celebrated in over 1,000 cities worldwide. It is an annual, free event dedicated to promoting music, arts, and culture. The festival debuted in the Philippines 30 years ago through Fête de la Musique Philippines and has finally made its way to Davao this year.

The first Fête de la Musique in the city is backed mainly by local event organizer and music promoter Holodeck Productions. Throughout the festival, which coincides with Duaw Davao, several venues have served as pocket stages for bands and solo artists to showcase renditions of their favorite songs or, most especially, their originals.
