Mindanao Popular Music Festival has unveiled the rules and mechanics for its songwriting competition this year. Through a Facebook post published Friday, MinPop announced the opening of its submission channels on March 1.

The contest is open to all Filipino citizens born or raised in Mindanao who are at least 16 years of age, except for Muzic's Kool employees and MinPop's staff.

A songwriter can submit up to two songs, which they either composed or had a hand in. Raw or fully produced demos are accepted, provided the tracks are 100% original and each does not exceed four minutes.

MinPop also emphasized which types of entry are disqualified, such as purely instrumental or commissioned compositions and those that have already been published in the past regardless of medium.

Submissions must be written using any native Mindanaoan language or dialect, Filipino or Tagalog, English, or a mix of all the aforementioned.

All entries must be submitted on or before March 30.

MinPop is the biggest songwriting competition in Mindanao aimed at positioning the region as a "powerhouse and a fertile ground for pop music generation." It is home to many talented songwriters such as Mau Ria, Oh! Caraga's Kenneth and Adam Corvera, and Benmark Mercado.
