On Thursday, three artists from across the Davao Region gathered to perform at South Republik's Songwriters Night. With genres as diverse as their hometowns, Jovit Leonerio, Annilov, and Rhys Vargas delivered sheer artistic identity before excited fans and curious music lovers.

Trex Bisnar hosted the event, which was attended by Gillian Logronio of 36 Degress and Timoteo, to name a few.

Leonerio, a producer from Sto. Tomas, opened his set with a folktronica-tinged tune from 2017, which was one of the finalists in that year's Tunog Kadayawan. The pop-punk lover turned indietronica artist went on to play his newest EP Oh Beth in its entirety. With his wife keeping the backing tracks in sync and Leonerio's guitar and keys optimized for performing live, the session went as smoothly as his approach to style-blending.

Mati-based Annilov Abad, armed with just the guitar, performed stripped-down versions of his songs plus an exclusive listen to his "oldest" but unreleased song, "Leave It", making the moment all the more intimate. At just 20 years old, the singer-songwriter already has several tracks under his belt, "Agosto" being the latest to be added to his catalog. Citing his musical heroes, Annilov mentioned John Mayer, Zild, Rico Blanco, and UDD.

Closing the gig was Rhys Vargas of Project Satellite. Recollecting his long-standing involvement in the Davao underground scene, Rhys referred to the now-defunct local music organization Kaiban as the main force that motivated him to stay even long after it dissolved. The frontman shared how the band formed as well as insights into their songwriting process. With a style reminiscent of the likes of The Stone Temple Pilots, Silverchair, and Audioslave, among others, and rather humorous quirks in between songs, Rhys colored the night with angst while keeping his presence very much in touch.
