Help fund DJ Love's heart surgery: "He needs this to survive"

Sherwin Calumpang Tuna, widely known as DJ Love, is a pioneering figure in the Philippine electronic music scene. Renowned for his work as a DJ, choreographer, and one of the original creators of the Budots genre, DJ Love has influenced countless fans through his infectious music and energy. However, the beloved artist is now facing a life-threatening health crisis, and his community is coming together to help him.

In a Facebook post published Wednesday, close friend and collaborator Jorge Juan Wieneke V, aka obese.dogma777, revealed that Tuna has been hospitalized in a public hospital in Davao for the past three weeks, undergoing a series of tests and consultations with multiple doctors. "He needs urgent, specialized medical care, and we refuse to settle for anything less than the best for him," he wrote.

The DJ's condition remains undiagnosed. "Sherwin has given so much to our community—as a DJ, artist, choreographer, and pioneer of the Budots genre. His music has made us dance, laugh, and celebrate life," Wieneke continued, adding, "Now, it's our turn to come together and help him fight for his own."

To help raise funds for the necessary treatment, Wieneke has launched a campaign through the crowdfunding website GoGetFunding. The goal is to raise P1.2 million to transfer DJ Love to a better facility where he can receive specialized medical care. The funds will cover heart surgery, hospital expenses, medications, and post-treatment recovery. "He needs this to survive," Wieneke said.

Tuna has long been a central figure in the Filipino electronic music scene, having been known for his high-energy and fun DJ sets. With his birthday approaching on April 1, supporters hope to give him the gift of health and a chance to continue creating and performing. Wieneke urged fans to donate for Tuna's recovery. "If you've ever shared a dance floor with him, been moved by his music, or simply believe in supporting the people who make our scene what it is—please help."

As of writing, the campaign has raised 11% of its P1.2 million goal. Those wishing to support DJ Love can make donations of any amount, with those contributing P500 or more receiving exclusive sample packs as a thank you.
