Eraserheads final reunion(s) no more as band now "here to stay"

It's been a long road of reunion tours and "final" concerts, but it looks like the Eraserheads are back for good. Band frontman Ely Buendia made the declaration during a press event following the screening of Eraserheads: Combo on the Run, a documentary that chronicles the band's rise and fall. Buendia quipped, "By this time, I think tama na yung reunion-reunion na 'yan, wala nang huling-huling el bimbo," hinting the end of the reunion cycle.

Formed in 1989, the Eraserheads dominated the Philippine music scene throughout the '90s with iconic hits such as "Ang Huling El Bimbo", "Magasin", and "Ligaya", to name a few. After disbanding in 2002, each member pursued solo careers, offering them a chance to explore different musical directions. Buendia ventured into a successful solo career, releasing his second album Method Adaptor in November 2024, while bassist Buddy Zabala and guitarist Marcus Adoro worked on their own projects, and drummer Raimund Marasigan kept busy with Sandwich and Cambio. Their solo paths allowed them to grow artistically but always carried the shadow of their collective Eraserheads legacy.

The band's first reunion in 2008 sparked hope among fans, leading to occasional concerts, but Buendia's recent statement signifies a real commitment to staying together. With his signature humor, Buendia remarked, "We're here to stay… until we decide to break up again, that is."

What was supposed to be the final reunion concert in December 2022 has now turned into just another chapter in the Eraserheads reunion saga. With the band now entering a new phase of creative collaboration, the news has sparked excitement among fans over the band's continued existence and future projects.

The first major event for their "here to stay" reunion will be the Electric Fan Festival on May 31, 2025, at the SMDC Festival Grounds in Parañaque City. The festival's name, revealed in the documentary's end credits, signals an exciting celebration of the Eraserheads' lasting influence.
