Basti Artadi expresses dismay at Ivory/Vicor over small Wolfgang vinyl royalty share

Wolfgang vocalist Basti Artadi on Wednesday, September 18, said in a Facebook post that the group is "not supporting the Ivory/Vicor 'Wolfgang' vinyl pressing" for reasons concerning the set royalty payment scheme.

According to him, Ivory Music and Vicor Music, both subsidiaries of Viva Music Group, will "pay" the band P2.40 for every vinyl record sold at P1,900.

This amounts to just a little over 0.12% of the sale price.

The frontman explained that this meager sum would have to be divided among the band members and the children of their late bassist, Mon Legaspi, leaving each party with just P600 if the album sells P1.9 million worth. "2024 and this is the type of stuff that still goes on today when honestly there is enough to go around if people weren't so greedy," he added.

Artadi then urged fans to be patient, hinting at future plans that would ensure the band receives fair compensation for their work. "I have plans, if you can wait I will make it worth your while and the band would appreciate it because we will finally get paid for fighting to put that album out."

Wolfgang is the quartet's eponymous full-length released in 1995 under Tone Def Philippines, then an imprint of Ivory. Ivory Music and Video is now part of Viva Music Group after its acquisition last year.
