Since their formation in 2007, SAGPA NI MAMA have remained a pivotal force in Davao's grunge scene. The Kiblawan-based band—comprised of three brothers—has built a reputation for raw, original music with no room for covers. Their journey began in the local music scene and over the years, they've become a household name in the underground community.
Through their time-honored career, the group has released several powerful albums, such as Money Is Blood (2012), Crack 'n Hate (2011), and I Don't Care Attitude (2010), all of which showcase their unfiltered approach to music. Their sound is characterized by gritty guitar riffs, biting basslines, and unapologetically bold lyrics.
Last year brought new changes to the band's lineup after more than a decade of dedication. Rian Rey Sancover, the original bassist, took on the responsibility of playing drums and handed over bass duties to their longtime friend, Kino. Despite the change, their roots remain firmly planted in the Davao music scene, keeping grunge alive and staying passionate about their craft.
SAGPA NI MAMA continue to release their music through their own DIY label, PISTI SIYA Records. Their full discography, from 2009 Demo to a live EP released in 2024, is available on all streaming platforms. With their unpolished, solid sound and DIY spirit, SAGPA NI MAMA prove that the heart of grunge is alive and thriving in Davao.
