London-based multi-instrumentalist Alex Mayland today dropped his debut single under his Bonomi (often stylized as BONOMI) moniker. The song, titled “Modern Times”, outlines the turbulent and bizarre year the whole world has endured in 2020.
According to the singer-songwriter, the track is meant to “represent the boredom and lethargic aspects of lockdown with its laid-back beats, whilst keeping a sense of celebration and appreciation for life.”
“Initially, it comments on some of the negative aspects of modern life and the feeling of insignificance,” Mayland explains, “but climaxes with a declaration of better times ahead.”
Born and raised in Canterbury, Mayland was only 13 when he began his music career as a founding member and drummer of UK band Electric River. The group disbanded in 2015 after many years of activity and involvement in the Kentish indie music scene.
After a few years of self-imposed hiatus, the indie rocker is now back where he left off, combining honest, reflective lyricism with laid-back ’90s-tinged musical craving.

Sam is a mediocre artist, musician, and the founder and editor in chief of UNXIGNED. He is a Juris Doctor who leads an excitingly boring life in the confines of his room juggling studies with passion and dreams. He is terrible at finding balance but gets by anyhow. He wants you to follow his artist pages and channels for when he decides to up his game. Pretty open for collabs and will mix your would-be hit song for cheap.
