London-based folk duo Ah, Lucidity today released their debut EP. The seven-track record, titled Lives of Others, features a collection of acoustic arrangements they’ve written and recorded over the past several years.
Self-produced by singer-songwriters Lucy Mabbott and David Qadir, Ah, Lucidity’s debut project fuses contemporary folk and alternative rock. According to the band, Lives of Others is meant to serve as “a collection of stories about people and their relationships to one another.”
One such story is told in “Porcelain”, the second track on the EP. In it, listeners are treated to two voices, one female and one male, as they struggle to make themselves understood in the heat of an argument. While carefully crafted lyrics of fragility portray two differing perspectives, twinkly guitar arpeggios and a melancholy chord progression elevate the track to a new level of emotionality.
Mabbot’s and Qadir’s harmonized vocals fit together perfectly, showcasing the pair’s chemistry and knack for songwriting. Lives of Others is shaping up to be an ear-catching debut for one of London’s hidden folk talents.
