Immediate Orchestra have just dropped their debut EP, Volume One, a collection of six instrumental tracks that will transport listeners into the realms of psychedelia, alternative rock, and retro soul. What sets this release apart from other music today is its refreshingly raw, improvisational approach—each track is recorded live in a single take, making the record unique and unrepeatable as the moment it was created.
The opening track, "One", is a sprawling nine-minute epic that's nothing short of an intricate, exploratory piece where the guitars of Vess Ruhtenberg (left channel) and Matt Hunckler (right channel) engage in a dynamic back-and-forth. With layers of soulful guitar, deep bass grooves from Jeb Banner, and the steady rhythmic pulse from Max Yoder on keys and Anthony Garber on drums, the track surges forward in a way that feels entirely alive.
The group weaves complementary lines that are as mesmerizing as they are unpredictable. Each subsequent track, from "Two" to "Six", follows the same spirit of improvisation, with the band trusting one another to guide the music wherever it wants to go. The interplay between the left and right channels is a defining characteristic of the effort, as the dual guitars often carve out distinct, yet complementary, paths that intersect and diverge to create an intricate dance of sound. The chemistry among the band members is palpable, and the improvisational nature gives the music a sense of spontaneity and freedom that feels increasingly rare.
Drawing influences from acts like King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard, Glass Beams, and Tame Impala, Immediate Orchestra offer a fresh voice in the thriving psychedelic and indie rock scene. And the band in Volume One did just that. They demonstrated here their emphasis on authenticity by capturing a moment in time, unpolished and full of heart.
Volume One by Immediate Orchestra is a breath of fresh air. It's raw, human, and as real as the creative spark that ignited it. Despite the spontaneous nature of their music, they sure know where they're headed with this masterpiece.

Sam is a mediocre artist, musician, and the founder and editor in chief of UNXIGNED. He is a Juris Doctor who leads an excitingly boring life in the confines of his room juggling studies with passion and dreams. He is terrible at finding balance but gets by anyhow. He wants you to follow his artist pages and channels for when he decides to up his game. Pretty open for collabs and will mix your would-be hit song for cheap.
